Timber!!! Roots still intact!
Well Stevenson has become a local news highlight and my dad has instant acclaim for his photography work. It's amazing how hard work and preparation can place someone for excellence. i.e. my dad spends HOURS taking photos, cataloging photos, enhancing raw photos, posting photos, and enjoying photos. Note that these are generally photos of small things....butterflies, moths, mushroom babies...but now the earth near 60 foot falls on Rock Creek (that's about 3 miles from our house) has begun to slide. First a few cracks appeared in front of the Lacombe's lawn....those cracks grew, 3 feet....15 feet.....75 feet!! and that's 75 feet because the riverbed below has risen about 15-20 feet higher due to the relocating dirt, mud, rocks, and timber! My dad has captured all the action. :) Check it out:

Same edge, but photo is taken 4 days later from the opposite direction. The survey stand that you see in yellow has now slid down the hillside!
:) Allow some time to watch the landslide series. There's a great serious of 6 photos posted on February 8th called "Tree Freefall" that demonstrates how "not to plant a tree". It's on e of my favorites. Anyway, words and even the photos don't adequately convey the drama of the slide. These trees are classic NW oldgrowth (or seriously developed 2nd growth) but they look like match-sticks across the chasm.
Here's a picture of 60 foot waterfall for reference (we used to Lewis & Clark up the rapids and I'd swim here as a child!).
